Hamer girl whipped during bull jumping ceremony - Omo Ethiopia

    Newer Older

    Soon in the Olympics?
This Hamer tribe woman has her back whipped as a young man from her family is doing the "bull jumping" ceremony to become a man. During the ceremony, Hamer girls show that they do not fear anything, so they ask the men to whip them to blood...They even fight between girls to be the first to be whipped. In the future, if times become hard for the girl, she'll be able to remind the bull jumper that she suffered for him, and receive help.

What an interesting photo and narration of life. One learns the in and outs of setting one self up for the present and future. Agree, "amazing".

You must be pleased with this one. That hand with the cane really makes it.
