Pyongyang metro North Korea 북한

Pyongyang metro North Korea 북한 by Eric Lafforgue.
The subway in Pyongyang is situated 120 meters below ground. Two lines, on which old wooden wagons in a DDR style trundle around, with portraits of the leaders hung everywhere. All of the 17 stations have names like Triumphant Return, Reunification, Paradise, Glory… Some say it may be eventually be used as an anti-nuclear shelter. ...i do not know how people reminds the names!

I'm surprised they are still using the old style cars . . . I'm sure they could get new cars from somwhere (i.e. Russia or China)

From what I read these subway cars are actually the ones they (still) use in Berlin. Once in a while BVG sells a few old ones to NK. Just the two portraits inside are being put up locally :-)

I do not think the local people need to remember the stations names. First of all, where are the people? There is no crowd at all. Moreover, how many of those stations you've seen? All those 17? I have never been there, but I have read someone else's story, that there are only 3 or 4 stations, and the subway plan is fake, it shows not existing stations. People are never allowed to go further and the trains go there-and-back between the few stations.

I do believe the stations are nuclear shelters. It was quite common not only in communist countries. But in North Korea (as in Soviet Union) they are really freaky nuclear-attack paranoiacs. They (I mean the authority) really believe (at least this is what they say) the Americans would be able to drop a nuclear bomb on them.

hi
i saw 2 stations, like most of the people who visit the country! I think there's more, as people do not go on just for the toutrists!
There was no people at this moment as they had all gone int the wagons, but there are people, i saw many using the subway.

It's funny because actually there are NO official maps of Pyongyang metro lines and nobody outside DPKR knows how many stations there ACTUALLY are... Moreover, there are rumours that only 2 stations are open because the others (if they're still used) look totally different from these... hehe I have a friend who was there and swears that he saw people jumping from a train to the other, in the opposite direction, when they went in, as if they were pretending that many people were using it... I wouln't be surprised if this was only a fake tourist sight!!!

there is a map, you can buy it at the station, with two lines. But i do not know why they just let tourists visit 2 stations...according to foreign people living in Pyongyang, there are more than 2!
