Young Pioneer North Korea

Young Pioneer North Korea by Eric Lafforgue.
All the kids in North Korea are involved in the Pioneers, a Party operated movement. Children enter the organization in elementary school and remain there until adolescence. The children wear the red kerchiefs, and when they are not at school, kids can roam the streets, but they have to remain with friends of their own age and gender.

I wore this when I studied in an elementary school in China... I remember I was so proud of myself because not everyone can have this in my class.

As I understand, Nazi Germany had a strong youth movement in the thirties, as did Japan. This sort of thing has gone on in North Korea for several decades. The thinking of the people must be even more unusual than it was in Nazi Germany and Japan in the 30's and 40's.
