The Knights Table

The Knights Table

We went away fpr the weekend with Debbie and Leigh who we went with to Venice last year. They were so excited when they happened upon this bed and breakfast. Its a hauntingly magickal place to stay right up high in the middle of the Peak District. Its a very barren place and it snowed too. The lady who owns it has given the entire house a King Arthur and his Knights theme. Everywhere Carol Knight has gone to the minutest detail and the property is full of gargoyles, dragons, wizards...its like walking into a miniature castle. I for one was in my element and wish to go back again. There are only two bedrooms: St Gawains room and Merlin's room. The food is excellent also. They do say "a change is as good as a rest" and this small break did us both the power of good.

Our bedroom at "The Knights Table"

Our bedroom at "The Knights Table"

Oh this room with en suite was so comfortable and warm with duck feather filled duvets and pillows and all furniture 'distressed' to give it a true medieval feeling. There were paintings on the wall of the Lady of Shallot, and the poem The Lady of Shallot is my favourite piece of prose. Thomas Mallory's La Morte D'Arthur is a wonderful work to read and study should you wish to read about Arthur and his knights of the round table. We shall look forward to visiting this place again. Its not too far and a trip out for the day driving through the rural countryside and have a lovely meal is a jolly good idea.

Polish stuffed cabbage with sweet and sour sauce

Polish stuffed cabbage with sweet and sour sauce

We have been Wizard Uncles to our Wizard nephews this week when Jacob and Isaac who live in wrexhamhauntedhouse came to stay with us during half term. After watching me umpteen times on a 17 year old film of me on BBC 1 with Ainsley Harriot in Can't Cook, Won't Cook, Jacob and Isaac decided they wanted to do the same recipe I cooked. I have to say the boys version was far superior to mine. When I went on the programme it was the worst thing I ever cooked and Ive never been able to cook it since...but I wont give up! If Isaac and Jacob can do it this good, then so can I. Eventually!
