      thanks, y'all. this one was on a leaf at the edge of the water. it was right warm today - close to 70. ruby soon ran by and the bug dove fast into the water. thanks Alan!

      very clear, is this taken with Canon EOS 40D with macro lens? or what?

      right, jbuddenh, 40D with the 50mm macro lens + 56mm extension. i was getting ready to photograph the springtails when i spotted the boatman and didn't have time to remove either extension tube. was afraid i'd disturb it getting so close, but it only moved from leaf to leaf a couple of times until ru came galloping by and it dove.

      Very nice shot. I didn't realize that they ever came out of the water. I love how your photos really look like nature shots. Many macro shots look like studio shots (which I still like) but you put a good amount emphasis on the subjects surroundings which I think gives your photos an extra appeal.
