"house", meaning it cleans up after itself, or just that it prefers the stable temperatures of living indoors??? :-)

no matter where you find them, you do them great justice thru your lens!

I like how the eyes show up so well.

These guys used to give me the willies; once I even found one in my desk at work (so I stopped putting my lunch in there for safe keeping).

I'm just as happy they aren't so common in California.

Wow - we're not sure we've ever seen a critter like this. Wonderful, sharp composition. Love the eyes!

Horrifying creatures, those centipedes. The ones here in Hawai'i have shorter legs, can grow to 8-10" inches long and are quite aggressive.

I actually had one turn itself around and come at me.

They're the only insect I can think of that I would kill on sight...The primary reason I've not photographed one.

Very nice photo of this one...

My grandmother always told me not to bother them and they would not bother me and that they were beneficial in that they ate other bugs.:)

A fascinating critter! Looks worse than ours. ours are generally red/yellow black and also banded with shorter legs. very poisonous, but not scary. Yhis one gives me the creeps.
But what a nice shot. I would love to see the full critter, tho.

How does the poor slow thing get around? Would have thought
it could have evolved a few extra legs, at least!

yeah they are actully great to have around the house...

they'll eat bugs that could do damage. not that im into letting bugs die... but if its by another one I don't mind.

unfortunatly my cat got the only one I've ever seen...

Beneficial or not, when you find one on your bed one day and on the wall in your bedroom soon after.. well it makes you not want to sleep in the room.

From what I've read they won't bite a human unless they feel threatened, and most can't break skin, but if they do the feeling is akin to a honeybee sting.

I didn't get as close of a photo, but did capture the long feelers it has:

I get them all the time in the bedroom, even in the winter, but they don't seem to want to do anything other than climb the walls. They are beneficial for sure, and live for up to seven years. Wild creatures!

One of these skittered away from the bathroom lightswitch and disappeared so fast behind the mirror, I wasnt sure I saw it. Till I googled centipede. I didnt sleep in my room for months after that.
something bit the top of my head on my pillow a couple of nights ago and it still stings. Now there is a small hole there. I do hope it wasnt this thing. aaaah
