Against censorship

Against censorship

I have given it considerable thought, and decided to remove almost all my shots here an not to upload any more pictures. I could delete my account, but I decided it would be better to leave a few shots and this message. I have a profile on ipernity.com, my name there is Gudrun. You are welcome to visit.

I live in Denmark, the country were a newspaper decided to publish the now famous cartoons of the prophet Mohammed. In that specific case I found it extremely disturbing that a Christian newspaper (I say Christian because in Denmark the Christian church is THE church) would publish drawings of the prophet, something Muslims do not do. As I understand it, it is prohibited to make pictures of any kind of the prophet. In my opinion it was blatant disrespect for other people's religion. I am not religious, I believe in the good in every human being, in human kind. But by know it is very clear that there is not much human OR kind about human kind.
I do not condone the behaviour of many Muslims after the cartoons were published, I want to make that clear. But it frightens me to see how religion is beginning to play a very important part, religions fighting each other. Yes, they have done for centuries, but in my optimism I thought it might change, instead it is getting worse..

The message seems to be: Love your neighbour, at least if he or she shares your religious beliefs.

Much has been said about 9/11 and the 3.300 people that were killed. Every year, around 20.000 people are murdered in the US, murdered by fellow Americans. That would mean that around 120.000 American have been murdered, in the US, by fellow American citizens.
But every day, the powers that be want to keep us scared of terrorism, the threat from Islam. They monitor our email, listen in on phone-calls, keep a check on what we do on the internet, and to be on the safe side, they put up filters to make sure we can not see what they mean is not healthy for us to see and/or read.

Self Portrait

Self Portrait

This is my first self-portrait and I was trying to show that I TRY to keep an open mind and understand others and their views.
Freedom of speech is a fundamental human right. Cencorship and filters do NOT help in our battle for this right.

Moskva, Russia

This is the first shot I uploaded on flickr. I am leaving it behind. I hope the message is clear.
Yes, it is taken in the old east block, but censorship has also been practiced in the west, just not so openly as in the east. It is sort of between the lines.
