Joseph Strauss, Golden Gate Bridge

Joseph Strauss, Golden Gate Bridge

I have intended to post this for some time but it has been overlooked many times. I snapped this shot right after I departed the bus and there was quite a crowd of people around this statue getting their pictures taken with the bridge in the background. Little did anyone know that inside 30 minutes the bridge would be covered in fog for the remainder of the afternoon.

St. Simons Lighthouse Stairway

St. Simons Lighthouse Stairway

This black and white stairwell was steep and the steps were pretty small, but on the way down I stopped to snap this photograph. The handrail and the repeating pattern of the stairs adds a nice touch.

You can see pretty well from the top too!

Southern Oaks & Spanish Moss

Southern Oaks & Spanish Moss

This was taken at the Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation in Darien, GA. I've gone back to this photo several times and finally think I have the mood that I wanted. It was late afternoon and the sun was shining through the tree branches. The heavy layers of Spanish moss softened the glow of the sun and the big heavy limbs arching towards the ground provided a nice pathway to the street off in the distance.

Rusty Grate

Rusty Grate

While under the Sydney Lanier bridge (also in this set) we came across this old barge or metal pier. The green and rusty colors caught my eye so I switched to the 50mm and shot this image.

I love how the waves soften with a long exposure. Plus in this image, the water rushing over the sand near the camera almost looks like glass. I like the purple tint and the contrasting orange of the sun's glow as it prepares to crest the clouds in the horizon.
