Railways and Football

Arches and Emirates Stadium from Citizen Rd, London N7. Thursday 23 February 2012. 15.48.

I worked through my lunch hour today but it was so beautiful I had just had to take a walk in the middle of the afternoon to 'make my head good' as a colleague put it. I also had to get a key cut which took me past this spot..... Citizen Rd on the Harvest Estate. I met another photographer who was taking photos of 'the estate's green spaces'...... my first outing in shirt sleeves this year!

Female Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata)

Female Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata)

Finsbury Park. London N4. Monday 20 February 2012. 10:17.

I first saw a pair of these in Finsbury Park a couple of weeks ago. I went back on Monday partly in the hope that I might see them again. I did see them again but as before they were feeding, which is quite a spectacle in it's self. They go around in circles and practically never lift their heads out of the water, at least while feeding.

I got lots of shots of the two but the male has quite a lot of white and I didn't get a satisfactory result. At this stage, the litmus test is at least some texture/detail and this can be difficult with white unless the light is just right. Still, I cropped this image of the female with just a hint of the male for starters and hope to see them again soon.

Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiacus)

Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiacus)

Hampstead Heath, London N6. 20 August 2011. 17:59. I saw half a dozen of these on a couple of my visits to the Heath in the late summer. According to my bird guide they were introduced from Africa in the eighteenth century and are now mainly found around northern East Anglia.
