Soakin’ up the sun
The gopher tortoise occupies upland habitat throughout Florida, including forests, fields, roadsides and residential yards. Gopher tortoises dig deep burrows for shelter and forage on low-growing plants. In Florida, gopher tortoises are a threatened species protected by state law.
