US $10 / US Treasury

    Newer Older

"Almost perfect" shot of the US Treasury aligned with the $10 note - even the flag matches up! This is the South side of the building, taken from the base of the momument that it faces - any closer, and the statue on the steps gets too big to line up.

As with the other pics in this series, the trick is to use a wide angle, small aperture, steady hand, tons of patience, and lots of attempts to get a decent shot.

I used a different shot in the Washington, DC on $85 a Day shot so I could have all four shots using the same composition with finger-and-thumb holding the note out; this one was too close so didn't really match in with the others.

I was sitting next to you on an airplane when you were editing the money/perspective images. We were flying either to or from Seattle (can't remember which) and didn't say one word to each other. Just now I was killing time with StumbleUpon and it brought up your pictures. Small world.

Wow, neat coincidence. That was the tues afternoon flight back to Seattle, all 6 hours long of it - having a slight hangover from the previous night didn't help too much. I did my usual post-travel photo deleting and renaming just to pass the time (while the locations of the shots were still fresh in my mind), deleting the ones that really didn't line up, and renaming the good ones: I obsessively rename the images from "IMG_3648" to something like "Lincoln memorial from bottom of the pond, wide vert 2". I spent the rest of the flight trying to sleep (without much success).
