Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G VR @ 200mm f/4 1/5000s ISO 200

No real postprocessing, just rotated it 90 degrees, added some contrast and made the already monochrome exposure black and white. The dark shadow on the left is a cloud in the bokeh.

Rainy autumn day at the summer cottage, this was water dropping down from the roof.

Whoa, thanks for the all the views, comments and faves!

Sameli: indeed it does. Maybe I'll try and frame someone's face in the out of focus area next time :-D

@ bored robot: Shooting waterdrops, the level of frustration is about as high as shooting kids - after a while you'll have plenty of OK shots but none that are really outstanding. You can't predict or affect how the waterdrops will turn out in the photo, so getting outstanding shots require a lot of time.

This is a bit out of focus, as the waterdrops' travel path takes them outside the DoF but other than that I am satisfied. Having fast focusing glass, a powerful AF module and water with a constant movement path makes it easier. Manual focus also works provided the water does not travel outside the DoF. The light grey background of a rainy sky gave the needed light, while stopping down to f/4 gives fast shutter speed without loss of sharpness. Boosting ISO to 200 gives an added advantage of shutter speed without loss of detail (none of my colleagues can tell the difference between ISO 100 and ISO 200 at 100%).

Great shot. It's interesting that there's no normal smooth and round drops. Every drop is distorted.

This was water washed down from the roof, and I assume the speed of the water flushing down the roof drain made these come out differently.
