He had a gift that could not be denied. His view through a camera lens could see things that no one could determine through the naked eye. The world has lost an artistic force today..not to be replaced only to be remembered.

With love, thank you for inspiring me to continue to see the world with a new vision. Your photos will continue to inspire & amaze me.

Chips Ahoy says:

This guy was a real quality human being. He saw the value in something that most people write off as negative due to their lack of wonder and curiosity. Writers loved it when he flicked their work because they knew he could make it look better than anyone else could. If he was aware of this, he didn't let on; as far as I can tell, he did his work humbly, for the pure enjoyment he got from doing it. He had the vision to see the best in a thing, whether it was a photographic subject or life in general, and the wisdom to pursue the beauty he encountered with the fullness of his phenomenal talents. He embodied this rare acumen perfectly in his chosen pseudonym: Joy of the Mundane.

Serves You Right says:

Ian, I will really miss looking at your pictures man. You really inspired me so much. really man. Your view on our graffiti scene here was brilliant. You really had a raw eye for graffiti, and didn't favor one crew or group of people. Just raw uncut documentation. You had such a keen eye for close ups and detail. With some of your pictures I really could see that your a curious kid at heart.

i just loved your support, sometimes I feel as if I don't get enough support in my endeavors and projects. But you were always there.

I loved waking up and checking out what new adventure you had been on... and I wish we would have gone on some of our own adventures together. It's just not fair man.

I feel at such a loss right now, you won't be forgotten.

He was one of the greatest friends a person could ask for. I've known him for 15 years and was recently introduced into this world of his. He had such a passion for what you guys do out there. He was so excited about finding every piece of art out there and giving it the credit it deserved. He would go to the ends of the earth to find his next flick.

He and I were out this morning, and he was saying not 5 minutes before everything happened how much he loved doing this. Every time I'm out on a hike I know he'll be right next to me showing me the way.

You will be missed. RIP Big Daddy.

"Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still. For they must needs be present, that love and live in that which is omnipresent In this divine glass they see face to face; and their converse if free, as well as pure. This is the comfort of friends, that though they may be said to die, yet their friendship and society are, in the best sense, every present, because immortal."

Hard to hear. I just heard the news from another fellow Flickr friend.

Ian is an inspiration for sure from the places he went and the things he shot photos of, he challenged me to look in obscure places and look at things from many angles.

His Flickr name says it all, he did very well at picking out interesting things which, while seemingly common, could have an interesting and eye catching side to them.

His wide variety of photos have certain beauty and uniqueness to them. I can truly say that he will be missed and I enjoyed having the opportunity to talk with him via email from time to time, he indeed was an interesting and good person.

My condolences to the family members.

He was one of the only people in my life i really had respect for. I started taking pictures of graffiti because i liked it, then i stumbled onto flickr, and most specifically his photostream. Thats when i decided that I wanted to make it more part of my life. his passion for finding new things and exploring has affected me greatly. I will never forget him. I will miss seeing his new updates, or talking about and exchanging spots, or just getting a new perspective on things I never would have thought about before. I'm still kinda shocked that this happened, and still don't really accept it. I am glad I could meet him, even if it was only through a computer screen.

Your pictures have amazing saturation, angles, intensity; it's obvious you have a gift- A natural eye for what is good, which is near impossible to find these days, real talent. I really feel blessed to have had you document the 612. I have a true respect and admiration for your ambition and passion for the work you hunt and produce.

Interesting this is the last photo uploaded to his stream. An empty, run down office. Looking back on his photos, it says something that he was able to go out and show us the amazing, colorful, odd, and simple things we pass every day to get to our boring, empty black and white offices. It has been said that anybody can pick up a camera and take pictures of 'things.' but it seems actually doing it is what eludes most of us. Mr. Talty did it, and he did it well. He may not be with us any more, but his images serve to remind us to stop and look at even the mundane.

My Condolences.

-Thomas.

strange how someone you don't know except through their artistic vision can have such an effect on you... in a world full of pain, the joy of the mundane is all we have... lost someone who was on the same plain, and theres too few of them left. its a shame he couldnt see how important to this community of people he was until hes gone.
also brings to mind our own mortality and the fact that death and happiness can be so closely linked.. true tragedy...
