Golden Gate Icon

Golden Gate Icon by MumbleyJoe.
I'm simply too tired to write up any description right now, so I'll have to come back to this later.
:-P

EDIT: Okay, I don't know if it matters much any more, but here's what I've got to say about this shot...
I took this a couple weeks back when shooting Marshall's Beach with Ivan Makarov. Where we were shooting the bridge was actually out of sight. But as the sun set and it got dark out eventually we hiked over the big rock dividing the beach and came back to the Golden Gate Bridge side. Despite taking countless photos of the bridge already, like every other SF photographer sometimes I just can't help taking another.

A little earlier I got hit by a monster wave at the shore which covered my gear with sand and water. My only dry lens was my 50mm f/1.8 so I put that on the camera while I cleaned and dried everything else. Normally I'd be inclined to shoot this much wider, but since 50mm is what I had I worked with it.

The 50mm lens's aperture will produce really nice sharply pointed stars around bright points of light when it's stopped down, so to get that effect here I stopped down to f/16. It's about the only thing to distinguish this shot from a shot I took here last fall which I probably like better myself.

Very very nice. I was down on that beach the same night (glad we didn't get in your way). I have to tell you that the reflections on the beach came out great. The high tide made it real hard to make them come out right. Like I said..... Very very nice.

Damn. That's the shot that I wanted to get when I was at Baker Beach, but my main lens broke and I ended up shooting it wide angle. The bridge almost seems an after-thought.

Maybe I'll get back again before another 10 years pass.

8) Nice shot! I like the stars from light. Did you use some filter to make them?

When I first saw the thumbnail I thought you had just reuploaded the other shot. I have to agree with you and prefer your other image fo the bridge but mainly only due to the moody nature of the sky that day. Still this is another excellent shot. Like you, I can't seem to take enough pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. Every time I get near it, I have to snap off a few. I have dozens, and many still to upload myself. I don't know if you have ever made it over to Kirby Cove but it's one of my favorite places to take pictures and not as well known by photographers as is the south end.

I am also hoping to get over to Alcatraz to see if I can get a shot of the bridge at sunset if they allow people to stay there that late. I'd love to get a shot of the sunset directly behind the bridge with a good telephoto lens.

I may have to go get myself one of those 50mm lenses. I've heard a lot of good things about the quality of the picture.

Tahnks for another nice shot.

wow! this is stunning! and this is from a d40! Something I thought a d40 would never shoot. Man you made me not want to upgrade, and stick with the d40. keep it up man.

Your pictures are breathtakingly beautiful. I just looked through them all and was stunned. I think this one might be my favorite ... but it's pretty hard to choose. Nice job. =)

I knew it was a shot from that night when I first saw that picture.. The skies looked all too familiar. Turned out nicely. I love how sharp all the lines are.
