Jeffrey Pine at Dusk [2]

Jeffrey Pine at Dusk [2] by MumbleyJoe.
This is the same Jeffrey Pine I've posted in my last two shots, and taken only a few moments after this shot was taken. In this case I'm facing north with the diffuse sunlight behind me.

Again, the smoky air added a lot of rich read color to the shot which made a nice contrast to the sky, especially since the granite and even the tree trunk are themselves basically just white.

Personally, I'm actually quite happy with this (and the other) shot. It took a good hike and some planning to be there at the right time, and also required sticking around after all the other photographers had left. The sun had already set some time earlier which gave the light a softer quality, though it was really actually pretty dark at this point.

The hike back to the car was in the dark, except for a band of red sky around the horizon that was really spectacular.

Have I mentioned Yosemite is amazing? You should go!

Great light in this one too! You don't need to convince me to go to Yosemite, it's already on my list of places to visit someday :)

Thank you Grrrega! I think this shot is probably better composed than my previous attempt - though I really like the moon in my last shot. I had another shot slightly better composed with the moon in it but I must have bumped the tripod as it had some blur that ruined it. These things happen I guess.

Well, if it's on your list of places to visit all I can suggest is that you move it closer to the top! ;-)

Thanks o-boy! The colors were really gorgeous - no photoshop required - nature did the hard part.

That's a really great shot. Looks to me like a weird troll kneeling and pushing on the granite stone. That it's an 8 sec exposure makes it even more impressive! Great vision!
