urban raptor

15 January 2010 - Dang. If I'd known how much attention this one was going to get, I would've done the original in a size much bigger than 800x600.

I love this shot, I just love how it shows this Kestrel in an urban background and I love how the background isn't too blurred by the apeture setting.

  3. mugley (74 months ago | reply)

Thanks mate. This is a composite from two images - the background was blurred in post.

OK, but I am a person who would rely on not editing pics (except for saturation, sharpness because that's something that my camera isn't so good at). Still a good shot.

Cheers - these are the original photos:

Gladys, there's a bloody top-level predator on the balcony again!

This works really well - it wasn't really apparent it was edited until you bought it up :)

  22. benrobertsabq (74 months ago | reply)

Really well done. I still couldn't pick it as a composite because the DOF makes it work so well. Great pick on the images to merge.

That's just awesome. Seeing the orginal shots both adds to it and takes from it for me. Mostly I think it adds, making one great shot from 2 good ones. Cheers for posting the originals.

Like everyone has said AWSOME! Great to see the originals as well... I think I need to bring out the GIMP as well ;) Does gimp do tone mapping for HDR? Also where was pic 1 of 2 taken? I think I have an idea but then again...

  28. mugley (74 months ago | reply)

    Thanks everyone.

@ ming mong - no tone-mapping in the GIMP I'm afraid.

The kestrel shot was taken from my balcony (story here), which incidentally is visible in the background now.

Love this, Mugley, but I am just a tad disappointed that it's not real.
