lo-fi cliché

lo-fi cliché

Seems just about everybody who's fired a shot from a lo-fi camera (usually a Holga) has done the chair-o-plane upskirt shot.

At least mine isn't cross-processed.

night keyhole

night keyhole

Gave the 8mm f/1.3 its first decent night run this evening. Thinking a lens hood might be a good idea.

the wingman

the wingman

Film again.

It's a fine line between plane window cliché and "street photography" cliché.

gaijin geisha (olympus 75mm f/1.8 test)

gaijin geisha (olympus 75mm f/1.8 test)

Was at The Digital Show at the Exhibition Centre this morning and got to play (very briefly) with the new Olympus M.Zuiko 75mm f/1.8.

Only had time to fire off a few shots, and I'm not the best person to attempt anything like a review, mainly because it's the first time I've used an auto lens on the E-PM1. Yeah, I've only used adapted/converted manual lenses prior to today, so I can't tell you how the focusing, handling etc compare to other M4/3 lenses.

And because my usual aperture technique is "turn all the way to the left for wide open", I didn't even think to check the aperture. Which means the camera decided to go with f/3.5 (probably remembered this from the time I briefly mounted the kit lens) and ISO 1600. Would've been nice to get a shot at f/1.8. Still, the bokker looks nice and circular a couple of stops down.

The lens itself feels fairly solid and weighty, and the autofocus seemed quick and silent enough to me. It'd be a good unobtrusive lens for picking portraits out of crowds. Shame the asking price is way beyond what I'd be willing to pay for an M4/3 lens though, especially since I've got a good manual 85mm f/1.4.

(No messing with the image here for a change - apart from the standard blur-resize-sharpen, this is what came out of the camera. Natural picture mode, stabilisation off, auto WB. Converted in Olympus Viewer with no settings changes.)
