The first time I heard of Al Gore was back in
the mid 80s when his wife "Tipper"
started the PMRC. She has the right to her
own opinions, and I supported him over Bush,
of course, but this incident always soured me
to him.

three comments:
1) The WIVES OF BIG BROTHER statement is an
indirect reference to Tipper Gore, wife to
then-Senator Al Gore. Tipper, at the time,
was head of the PRMC, which is responsible
for those 'WARNING: Explicit Lyrics' labels
on CDs.
2) In addition to this letter. Frank Zappa
spoke to the U.S. Senate on this issue
sometime in the mid to late 80s. I'd love to
see a transcript of that.
3) Frank's magnum opus, "Joe's
Garage", a two-record set, centers its
theme around the banality of censorship. It
is awesome. Not only does it contain some of
the greatest musicianship ever recorded, the
whole theme really exposes the argument that
music leads to moral bankruptcy as ludicrous

To see what Frank was up aginst in 1986,
check out this clip from CNN's Crossfire.
Ironically, Frank's widow Gail later became
an outspoken Al Gore supporter, donating
thousands to his 2000 presidential campaign.

Although he could be condescending to his
fans (and considereing the stoned jokers who
sat in front of me at one Zappa concert,
perhaps justifiably so), he was always
brutally honest when interviewed, especially
when it came to the ideals of the Bill of
Rights. No "spin" from FZ, kiddo.
Although the LP it came from was kinda weak,
his piece "Porn Wars" was an
incredible kaleidoscopic look at the PMRC
hearings.

as a young musician, Mr. Z generously shared,
both personal encouragements & allowed me
to witness sound check, information that
shifted my musical experience. I have been
playing and writing music like i feel it just
as HE told me to do.
i thank you for keeping HIS teachings and
legacy alive.
