Phyllis' MapThe main building of Ek Tun, Phyllis' house Where we stayed--the near cottage. Nobody stayed at the Far Cottage Boat and beach--this is the river The mineral pool. This is where it all started. The fabled bat cave, which we didn't get to see. North. Which wasn't much use to us under a thick canopy of trees in a valley without a compass. The friggin' water hole. We passed it three times. We never found the mound. The overlooks we were trying to get too. It was supposed to be a 45min hike. The way to the village. We had come pretty far down here before we saw a sign facing the other way and realized we were leaving Phyllis' property. The Bermuda Triangle. The paths weren't cleared well here, and we kept on circling it, worried we had lost the path. The left corner is where we had our Blair Witch moment (even though we never lost the map.) I mistook this corner for the one below it. That's what started this whole mess. A steep and rocky hike, but we were still in good spirits here. The way we finally returned. We made the rounds of that center square several times, trying different offshoots until we could align it properly. ![]() |
