I dropped by the new and improved California Adventure last night and ran into Gregg and Ryan who just happened to be in the park shooting when I arrived. One of my goals for the night was to find a suitable location to shoot the Disneyland fireworks from in Carsland, but after checking all around the new buildings in Radiator Springs, I was stumped. I finally settled on Mater's Junkyard, but there were a few too many poles and lights in the way. As the fireworks began, I really wasn't happy with what I was getting, but suddenly noticed the the cupola of the Carthay Circle Theater might make a nice centerpiece with the fireworks directly behind. I quickly ran around to the other side of Mater's in Bug'sland and began firing away. As I was too late to get a tripod up, I had to settle with shots from my 70-200, 2.8.
As I was shooting, the main question that kept bugging me was....who do you have to be to go up to the top of the Copula DURING the fireworks? Can you imagine the view from up there? I'm hoping to get a chance to dine there in the next couple of weeks, and you can bet that will be one of the first questions I ask as I enter. I mean...it can't hurt to ask, right?
In the mean time, Gregg, Ryan, and I had a great time shooting last night. All three of us agreed that it felt AMAZING to be back at square one with our photography, which two brand new areas of the park to shoot and new vistas seemingly around every corner. It looks like it's going to be an incredible Summer. :)
