Last Saturday morning, I set my alarm for 5 AM again and set out in hopes of catching a few clouds in the sky for the sunrise down in Laguna. I was also hoping to catch the sun from a new location I had scouted out a few weeks earlier which included a view looking back over the beach toward the South East. But as I drove down the 55, my heart sank. An entire chorus of fat ladies was singing and I knew that this particular morning was going to be a total bust. The clouds had rolled back in over night and there was nothing but an impenetrable wall of gloom as far as the eye could see.
Acknowledging the fact that Yogi Berra was clearly out of his mind, I headed down to Laguna anyway thinking that I might try some long exposure shots in the early morning darkness. But as I arrived at Crescent Bay, suddenly the clouds broke and lit up the beach in the most glorious sunrise I've seen all year.
Yogi was right. It really ain't over til it's over.
