As Far as You Can Go

Out Stack, the Northernmost point in the British Isles at 60 51'N. If you travel in a straight line North from here, the next landfall would be Wrangel Island, 90 miles off the coast of far Eastern Siberia, 3320 miles away --- Unst, Shetland (Jun 2008).

Some mileages from Out Stack using Google Earth:

Sumburgh Head - 72 (Southernmost point of Shetland)

John o'Groats - 170 (Closest point of UK Mainland)

Norwegian Coast - 184

Faroe Islands - 197

Edinburgh - 350

Arctic Circle - 395

Ayr - 398

Iceland Coast - 493

London - 648

Jersey - 812 (Southernmost point of the British Isles)

Greenland Coast - 876

Canada Coast (Ellesmere Island) - 1814

North Pole - 2020

Alaska Coast (Barrow) - 3236

New York - 3280

Amazingly, it's closer to the Arctic Circle than Ayr and closer to Alaska than New York!
