    The New York City Subway system suspended service starting at 7 p.m. on October 28, 2012, in advance of Hurricane Sandy. This photo shows Times Square, normally the busiest station in the system. The previous systemwide suspension of service took place in August 2011 for Tropical Storm Irene.

      It's not just "empty stations", but actually a part of history. It's like the calm before the storm...I for one love these pictures as I'm in Ohio and have never seen this part of NY before. And these are all great pictures, thanks for posting them! For all those in Sandy's path, I wish you luck and God Bless you all!

      Since I believe the system is ordinarily open 24/7, many people have never seen these stations empty.
