Nagasaki Peace Park monument

Nagasaki Peace Park monument by MShades.
The main monument in the Nagasaki Peace Park. According to the plaque, the elevated right hand is a warning about the threat of nuclear weapons, while the extended left symbolizes tranquility and peace. The physique represents divine love and peace, and the closed eyes are in prayer.

The right leg is folded in meditation, while the left leg is ready for action.

A lot going on here....

The statue marks the exact spot of Ground Zero.

The atomic bomb that devastated the city was the equivalent of 21,000 metric tonnes of TNT and exploded 469m (1,540ft) above this spot.

The temperature at ground level reached some 3,900 deg C (or 7,000 deg F) with wind speeds of 624mph.

I believe the hypocenter is a couple of hundred meters away from here, actually - that sticks in my mind because I really wanted to see The Spot, but our tour guide had us on something of a tight leash, and the hypocenter monument was not on her list of things to see....
