Tuvalu is amazing but at the same time a very poor country . . . During my visit I was told that Tuvalu can't even afford the fee for the United Nations membership . . .

Just checked the Wikipedia article referred to me by Markus ' zinjixmaggir' (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dilaudid/) and there it says Tuvalu joined the UN in 2000 - I guess just after I had visited :)
