Disturbing

Disturbing

I have no idea why our shadows do this during the eclipse, but it looked really disturbing. (We were blurry, but there were also distortions--like the bits of Bensons fingers appearing between his fingers.

Eclipse Shadow

Eclipse Shadow

One of the cool things about an eclipse is how an image of the eclipse is visible if there's a small hole for the light to get through.

One effect I didn't know about was this weird overall shadow effect--our shadows became very blurry. I was trying to capture that and didn't even know I had captured the eclipse crescent until I saw this photo later.

The Peak

The Peak

Right at the peak.

It wasn't _quite_ what I expected. I knew that we wouldn't see the full ring of the annular solar eclipse, but I expected it to get darker outside than it ended up getting. However, it was clear that it was a bit dimmer than it had been (suddenly we didn't need our sunglasses), and the light had a somewhat unusual flat quality to it.

Over the Bay

Over the Bay

The eclipse near it's peak. The bright part on the bottom is the sun reflecting off of San Francisco Bay.

I didn't have a nice filter for my camera, relying instead on the eclipse glasses we had. Photos without the filter don't look like there's an eclipse at all--but you can see a couple of images of the eclipse as sparkles here.
