Eastern State Penitentiary
Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is an abandoned state prison that opened before the Civil War and closed in 1970. Since the facility's closure the institution has deteriorated rapidly with plaster falling away exposing stone walls and wooden strut work. Efforts have been made to preserve and even restore parts of the cell blocks. The prison once housed Al Capone and Slick Willie Sutton. It is open daily for walking tours.
