Reusable Giant Bags
We were given two free reusable grocery bags at the Giant in Columbia Heights today. I think we're going to leave them by the front door to remind us to actually use them, in light of DC's new 5 cents per platic bag tax. We already have reusable bags but forget to bring them with us half the time.

I heard about this new policy! It's so great. I always shop with reusable bags - my roommate and I leave a pile by the door and I keep a few at work, too. I wish Virginia would do something about plastic bag use, though - I feel like clerks at stores in Arlington double or triple bag things without any reason all the time. It's so wasteful.

I love the free bag giveaway too. But one thing you might consider is going to the Container Store and investing in three or four nylon reuseable bags that come compressed in teeny tiny packages. I keep one in every bag I use, so I never have to remember.
FYI, the charges apply even for takeout and delivery orders AND paper bags. This will take some getting used to. But I think it's a wonderful idea.

Yay, you got some of the bags!! WOo-hoo! I have a ton of the nylon bags that fold to a small size, but I always forget to use them. Grrr!! Part of my resolution is to use those bags!!!
