I was going to try to line this up with the Capitol Dome and
Washington Monument, but it's been done before with currency. So,
here's my trusty SmartTrip card, one of the earlier ones, still going
strong. That's my thumb on the left there.

I just got my Obama Smartrip cards, I agree that $10 is steep. But its a nice memento. In addition to my regular card, I know have the (2) Washington Nationals, and the Obama card.

Yes, it will be a sad day when Metro replaces the SmarTrip with a new system. Perhaps when that happens I'll recreate the same shot in the same location with the new card. :)
