Looks better here:

'Fire Canoe #2' On Black

A couple of notes about this image...first the paddling technique is correct--its a way of paddling solo--obviously only used in this kind of condition (calm, no wind)....secondly about the post-processing, I boosted temp and contrast in the RAW converter then tweaked levels to achieve the colour

This will be the last canoe shot for awhile !

I did not know that was a real stroke. I have never seen it done. Will have to try it some time.

Over here in the UK we have a survival expert called Ray Mears. His latest show was about the Canadian canoes that the fur trappers used to use.

That show and this photo makes me want to paddle across Canadian lakes and down rivers - even to risk a bit of white water running - although I believe that's dangerous in this type of craft ;-)

Can't really add any more superlatives to this image - just astonishingly and achingly beautiful, haunting and atmospheric. You just got yourself another fave.
