Pizza-----Douglas Adams The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul

Pizza-----Douglas Adams The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul by mquest foto.
Not the best of pizzas, but It filled us up nicely. My loyal readers should know by now that I have to try a pizza everywhere I go.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Douglas Adams. The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul

She enjoyed the notion that New York was home, and that
she missed it, but in fact the only thing she really missed was
pizza. And not just any old pizza, but the sort of pizza they
brought to your door if you phoned them up and asked them to.
That was the only real pizza. Pizza that you had to go out and
sit at a table staring at red paper napkins for wasn't real
pizza however much extra pepperoni and anchovy they put on it.
London was the place she liked living in most, apart, of
course, from the pizza problem, which drove her crazy. Why
would no one deliver pizza? Why did no one understand that it
was fundamental to the whole nature of pizza that it amved at
your front door in a hot cardboard box? That you slithered it
out of greaseproof paper and ate it in folded slices in front
of the TV? What was the fundamental flaw in the stupid,
stuck-up, sluggardly English that they couldn't grasp this
simple principle? For some odd reason it was the one
frustration she could never learn simply to live with and
accept, and about once a month or so she would get very
depressed, phone a pizza restaurant, order the biggest, most
lavish pizza she could describe - pizza with an extra pizza on
it, essentially - and then, sweetly, ask them to deliver it.
"To what?"
"Deliver. Let me give you the address - "
"I don't understand. Aren't you going to come and pick it
up?"
"No. Aren't you going to deliver? My address - "
"Er, we don't do that, miss."
"Don't do what?"
"Er, deliver. . ."
"You don't deliver? Am I hearing you
correctly... ?"

I'd missed this one. Wonderful quote and it seems so difficult (to me) to connect Douglas Adams with a self-made photograph. Pizza is an idea for tonight, too. I fear the local pizza restaurant in this village does not deliver either... ;-)

Railwalker-
I find this picture to be the strangest in the flickr world. It is a bad picture.
(a snapshot) This picture has made it into the top 10 dozens of times.
Why?
(I think this is a great quote)

well, it seems to defy some known laws of composition (although I find an interesting balance in the color composition). If I manage to look over my own shoulder while on flickr, I sometimes click on pictures by unknown authors because the thumbnail evokes my curiosity. I can imagine that process working on this one for many people. Why would anyone take a snapshot of a pizza? What's the story behind that?
Much of flickr explore might just be curiosity. An interesting question.

Mike,

Thanks for the advice about Explore being a harsh mistress, although me being female, I would much prefer a harsh master.

Just kidding... really... I am not a fan of harsh.

I think that what railwalker said makes a lot of sense. Explore does not adhere to any known laws of the universe.

You might just try deleting the wonderful Douglas Adams references... in fact, strip the photo of all text, title and all... to see what happens. You can always restore them later. In fact, I think I'll preserve it for myself as well.

Having grown up in New York, I know of what DNA was talking about here.

I will refrain from faving the photo so as not to exacerbate your Explore problem with this pic.

I have to comment quickly because the pizza guy is at the door. I love this photo. It is the most incredible photo on Flickr. You have captured reality in it's most sublime moment here. Thank you so very much. But "I think the problem, to be quite honest with you, is that you've never actually known what the question is." And the fact that less than 42 people have faved this photo shows me that there is very little understanding and maybe too many Vogons here. Do you play Scrabble? Definitely a fave for me and an invite.

For those that lack understanding, this may get me censored & banned, but I will risk it for artistic creativity.

I'm not sure what Douglas Adams' background was or what he knew but 42 and 72 have always been important numbers to the mystics.
"The ten emanated aspects of the sefirot, provided a means for the mystic to span the worlds of the finite and infinite"

Bianco's Pizza in Phoenix Arizona is rated one of the best pizzas in the US. If you want to discuss pizza with me, we should probably take this to a different dimension.

Fave for me. I hope you know:
"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something more bizarrely inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened."
