Solio is a vast tract of land in Central Kenya set aside for the displaced peoples from the slopes of Mount Kenya. It is flat savanna, 10km from the nearest town and is exposed to baking sun and relentless wind. There is a water station, but few other amenities.
When people first came to Solio Village 2, Unicef supplied tents for shelter from the elements and some were used as a primary school, where children were taught on mats on the mud floor.
In Sept 2010 Moving Mountains completed the first phase of a new school, building 2 classrooms and accommodation for teachers.
