a decade document

This was my favorite piece at SFMOMA: David Ireland's A Decade Document, Withcomet, Andcomet, Andstool.

Much of Ireland's work was conceptual installations, one of which was the entire house he lived in at 500 Capp Street in San Francisco. This cabinet is from the bathroom there and within the cabinet are the paper tubes from the toilet paper rolls from 1980 -1990.

It never ceases to amaze me what pieces of artwork we are drawn to. An artist might have hundreds of paintings, yet a few will call out to us especially. And why, out of an entire big museum full of work, is my favorite thing a shelf full of toilet paper and some bathroom cleaner? And yet it is so.

Many modern object art pieces beg the question, "What makes this art?", of course. But alright, I accept this as art and I love it. And you may love it or think it's bunk. And you may love something that I think is ugly as sin. But why?

As always, this musuem visit has given me much to think about.

red bull cola

Zomg. They were out of Red Bull Cola everywhere for the past few months. I thought they'd stopped stocking it because of the trace amounts of cocaine. But I saw one four-pack of it at Target last week. Heck yeah, Red Bull Cola! And on Friday I found out my friend Tommy had bought me two more packs. Heck yeah, friends!

turn, turn, turn

Every year at this time I start compiling my top ten albums of the year list. It is always SO hard to whittle the number down to just ten. I try to buy as many of the albums on vinyl as I can, and sometimes that helps me decide. The three records I have here are definitely going on the list:

Dan Deacon's Broomst, Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion and Neko Case's Middle Cyclone.

I'm hoping to pick up a few more this weekend.
