Hyles euphorbiae - Stylish pink Hawkmoth![]() The Spurge Hawkmoth is found through Europe being commonest in dry grassland and scrubland overgrown with perennial Spurge species (Euphorbia), that the caterpillars eat.
This is a variable species and many specimens show a very nice pink colouration on the underside as you can see by the picture. This one came to the lights while mothing at Serra de Sicó, Coimbra, Portugal, in September 2006. The caterpillars are stunning and later will post a picture of one so be prepared.
