Well, what a great day. I went a bit nuts this morning, using clunky scissors to cut this portrait out of nori while I listened to the news of the inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama II. This dark part is nori, the light underneath is cheese, and under that is a cup of rice with furikake sprinkled on. Then leftover chicken katsu on a bed of julienned red & green lettuce with some homemade tonkatsu sauce and a few cherry tomatoes. Happy inauguration everyone :-)

Well, normally I tend to not make fancy bento lunches (so far). I do love looking at the really stunning fancy bentos that other folks make, but so far I tend to strive for tasty and kind of rustically handsome. But today I was going to sit and watch/listen to the inauguration anyway, and I'd been dreaming this idea up, so, voila! It didn't actually take all that long --maybe an hour tops?
