The LIDO
a store that has been almost closed for many years, yet still displaying dry goods for those peeking in through the small slit of window not newspapered.
until recently, the store's display was in plain sight of the passers-by but a story in a local paper may have brought unwanted attention. behind the windowcovering, though, the lights are still on. seems there has been some internet traffic on this: www.discovervancouver.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=29738 m. says he used to shop there in the seventies (starving student days) for bargain price foods about to expire. other m. says in the nineties the store was only open on saturdays. she loves the store with its rows of vintage yellow brand canned peas, and is saddened by the loss of view into it. in bittersweet justice, newspapers now obscure the very thing they thought to drag from obscurity. the lido always confused me it was never open, but everytime i walked past it the light was on.
the dry goods have been there long enough that the boxes were fading.
i thought of it as a weird art installation
