Who, Me?
A little girl in a dusty hamlet on a hilltop in rural Guatemala. I'm not entirely sure, but this may be my favourite among all the portraits I have taken.
Uploaded on Jul 15, 2009 Remarkables
I took this shot on the edge of the Remarkables Ranges in southern-central South Australia a couple of years back. Ash and I had been driving around loving the canola/rapeseed in full bloom in the sunlight, and looking for a good place to stop and take photos. We tried a few different locations and were generally pretty pleased with the results.

A rose-bud unfurls as a cool misty morning dawns in the hill-country of Thailand's serene north-west.

Uploaded on Jul 9, 2009 In an Angkor Window
Boys sit in the early-morning sunlight in the frame of a window in a temple ruin at Angkor Wat. Low light makes for a different sort of portraiture. It can be harsh, contrasty, and cast lots of shadow. If you're taking a photograph of somebody you like, it's not necessarily the best time of day- often a slightly overcast day is better, where shadows and sharp sun angles don't leave lots of relief lines on the features you're trying to capture. However for this sort of shot, it adds considerable interest, and because their faces are expressive and bold, the shadow actually accents the shape their faces are taking, emphasising the emotions. I was really pleased how this shot came together, and though I don't normally do a lot of early-light portraiture, it's one to remember for next time.
