Alterations & Digital Collages
|
I make my living as a landscape designer
-- and I love what I do. Designing for
everyday people, and using the four
elements in my designs, gives me great
fulfillment and usually brings me joy.
Landscape design as a field, uses
scientific knowledge and reasoning
combined with creativity, intuitive
judgment and an artistic eye. To keep my
work fresh, I engage in many hours each
month in my other artistic pursuits. Two
of these are photography and mixed media
collage. When our kids bought me a
digital camera for my birthday several
years ago, I discovered the power of
taking my own photos to use in my
collages. Now I use my own drawings,
some of my real-life bits and scraps and
pieces of stuff (scanned) and my digital
photos to illustrate poems, my dreams,
daydreams, and sometimes just thoughts
that filter through my brain and heart
like sunlight sifting down through a
woodland canopy.
So, playing around with my digital
paintings and collages has become as
basic to my life as ... oh ... eating or
sleeping.
I have tried to organize this set so
there are some threads, however
intuitive or subtle, running from one
piece to the next. I also ordered the
pieces so that the more complicated, or
thought-out pieces are at the beginning
and some of my pure-play, simpler pieces
are at the end.
I'm one of those types who refuse to
read the manual -- everything I've
learned about Illustrator, Photoshop,
etc ... I've pretty much learned on the
fly by trial and error. There are more
"errors" than successes,
please leave me constructive critiques.
Thank you.
