Cup of Gold

Cup of Gold by MaureenShaughnessy (aka MontanaRaven).
This is exactly as the photo came from my camera - no sharpening, color saturation, cropping or whatever.... I'm not very good at macro or closeup shots, so my critical eye sees the blur and lack of focus and says, bleh... but still I really like this image. Mostly I am blown away by the way the inside of this milkweed pod looks like it has rubbed-on gold leaf. Like a sacred icon, or the dome of a temple, or the wonderful honey you find when you look at someone you love.

Besides all that, in my opinion, milkweed is one of the most amazing plants in so many ways. I make handmade paper from the stems. And I use the seeds (the fluff) in the paper as well, as an added texture. And the pods! They are so sexy!

Looking at the thumbnail, I thought this was a painting instead of a photo. Those vivid colours are incredible. Well done!

Very nice!
I found it so interesting that we both posted milkweed just a short time apart in the same pool.
Beautiful color... the navy and gold complement one another perfectly.

another of your beautifully rich-toned nature finds.. accuracy-be-damned, it's purely pulchritudinous! and yes.. it IS a bit erotic.. in a prickly risky dangerous Mother-Nature-in-the-raw sense, even, eh? lol.
Then again.. what other sense it there?

thanks to everyone for your comments.

Aren't milkweed pods just the coolest plant offering? The seeds are formed to most effectively float away from the mother plant on the wind .... how beautiful they are in themselves, those small papery discs with precise and tiny feathers to lift them on the slightest breeze...

and then there is the puzzle of the pod ...

the beauty of the seeds comes from their utility, their purpose, their task to fly away from the mother. Oh, but the beauty of the milkweed's pod, well, that I believe is the milkweed's gift. That is art.

And because we are humans and because we see connections and love to find gifts in unexpected places ... the pod is a mirror for us.

@Javanutmom (love your username!) that is so cool we both posted similar photos at the same time. Here's the link to yours (so others can see your lovely shot.) Thanks for telling me about yours.

Maureen, this is so unusual and it is wonderful you were able to visualize and capture this in a photo. For a macro shot it still has great DoF and the background has blurred into an interesting and complimentary tone and texture.
