Locomotion

Locomotion by Monster..
If there is anything in this world that can truly rust in style, it's an old steam train.

Hopefully destined for refurbishment, 76017 looks like a powerful brooding beast, if a little past her prime, lurking in the shadows.

Hi Steve. I love this shot. The exposure, tonal qualities, and that surreal sky are fantastic - not to mention that fact that I am a great fan of steam locomotives. Very nice.

This looks like an old abandoned locomotive surrounded by doom...like a scene from a scary movie. Excellent work!

Another powerful shot of a powerful locomotive.
The darks of the old steel are well balanced by the darker sky. Do you hang around railroad yards waiting for the weather to turn nasty?

Leaves me wondering how you got up in the air for that perfect angle?

Thanks all.

efo - although I dabble in Photoshop, I do need to time the trips so that the sky is suitably threatening.

Oh - and the advantages of having your own hot air balloon... no I was on a raised embankment, up to my ears in thorns!

OMG...whatever the magic...the appeal of tracks, engines, undefined destinations...you've caught in these 2 shots. Magnificent, an old steam engine.

Harry Potter's in the carriage here somewhere...either that, or the orcs or Mordor are closeby.

@Ariel - I've read Lord of the Rings 9 times... and I don't recall a train service, that would have made it much easier to get past Shelob.

- The Gondor Express, stopping at Minas Titith and Mount Doom!

... took some careful observation for me to be convinced that this was an authentic train engine and not a model ... don't know if that's a problem or not ... very moody piece ...

Leafy - its a problem, but its your problem not mine.

This is most definitely a real train. The unfortunate thing was there were a line of them, wagons and trains, all to be restored I think, but they are buffer to buffer - hence the tight framing.

Ghost train in ghost land with threatening clouds.
It's a kind of mute apocalyptic scene. The black and white is really necessary here.

Just one regret : no black smoke coming from train's chimney ;)
