Im told they are, but that might just be in some states like QLD, I know for certain Magpies are protected here and the government has already banned duck and quail hunting here as well - there has been a concerted effort to protect bird species in recent decades.

Crows are THE most intelligent species of birds. They are carrion eaters that help clean up road kill, you always see them doing it but they never end up as road kill themselves.
I don't know why but I have always loved crows.

This is a very nice shot. I just love the eyes. Considering that it’s just a crow you have done a wonderful job. The background colors are very nice as well. The DoF is just perfect. The only thing that can be improve in my opinion is the composition.

Hmm. I never thought I'd say this but 'I like the expression on the birds face'. Not crazy about the exposure here, although it was obviously hard. The feathers, eyes, and such that are well exposed are so cool that I want to see the parts of the bird that are lost in shadow. Background is nicely out of focus, but I find it uncomfortably bright.

It's funny but I know that expression... on my cat eyes. Not kidding. Everytime he suspects I'm handling his food (noisy plastic package) he stares like that, with those obsessive wide open eyes. And he's black as this crow.
Ok, so in your town crows are just like pigeons. They pursue you for food. Here, in Portugal, they stay well faraway from people although there are lots of them on the country side.
Beautiful photo. Very well caught. Curious lyrics from Caves porfolio (one of my faves).

Fair enough, I have an unusually high contrast display. I think it's in comparison to the dark bird; the background seems imposingly bright compared to the dark subject. Printed, reflective, it probably wouldn't appear the same.

I am so jealous of this photo. Its gorgeous. I love his eyes especially. Crows have always surprised me with their intellect as well as jackdaws and magpies. Lovely shot..I am not gonna pretend..I REALLY think its perfect.

Crows steel, amzing what they can do, I witness one in Astralia years ago: he zip open a bag took off everything out until he found food in a sealed plastic bag, he opened it and eat. 5.5/7 from MiRea's Realm group.

Incredible photo. I love watching crows, they have an amazing eye colour. I've never managed to get so close to them though, mind you I haven't really tried.
I may bring my camera to work and try and shoot a few pics during my lunch break (today would have been an amazing day, but the camera's not here) :-(
Fantastic pic though!

Bonjour !
I am working now on a DVD to explain death and reincarnation to children (7-10). The narrator is a crow, my protective animal and symbol of my belated grandfather. Unfortunately I have no budget for my project and I put it together with a few friends of mine in California and France. I would love to use your picture in my story, your crow would be the narrator. Could you let me know if/how I could do that? Merci, Catherine.
