Tansu hardware![]() ![]() I am not entirely sure how to care for the hardware. I may just have to order a book or two off amazon to find out.
Commentstokyo mommy says:Thanks so much for the info! I would have
thanked you sooner but I have been traveling.
I cant wait for the chest to arrive here in

I recommend the book Traditional Japanese Cabinetry: Tansu, by Ty & Kiyoku Heineken.
They say, " Most important in the care of hardware is to use the iron oxidation rather than remove it. Superficial flaking rust is unstable therefore should be removed with 0000 steel wool. The under layer of oxidation can be fed with light machine oil applied with the fingertip and buffed, building over a fairly short period of time to a proper patina."
This is such a beautiful piece. Really nice kakute handles.
