No Clouds Today

No Clouds Today

Here I am in Monument Valley and there are no clouds, bad luck. I get up for the sunrise and the sky is cloudless so after being disappointed I decide to take a hike and see what I can find. I was looking for something different and I came up with this.

Leaving Monument Valley

Leaving Monument Valley

With snow on the ground headlights shine on US Highway 163 at mile marker 13. I noticed that most of the cars leaving the valley were driven by Navajo. The Navajo take their time and drive like they have all the time in the world. At this time of the evening the tourist have already reached their destination or are rushing madly to get there.

Teton Winter

Teton Winter

We visited the Tetons this winter and for a California couple it was thermal shock. When I was taking photos during the day the temperature was 3 degrees below. That's bad enough but there also was a slight breeze that cut painfully into my bare fingers. No doubt about it my blood is california thin. In spite of the cold I tried to capture the winter atmosphere of the barn and Tetons in the muted light of a grey sky. No hard shadows today.

Canyon Color

Canyon Color

If you pass through Page, Arizona and have time make sure you visit Antelope Canyon. One morning my wife and I spent 2 hours strolling through the Lower Antelope Canyon watching the light change the appearance of the sandstone moment by moment. It was cold and my wife was bundled up like an eskimo but I was so amazed by the canyons beauty I barley noticed the cold. This was the most dramatic scene I saw.

I Got Lucky

I Got Lucky

I crawled out of bed and left my motel in Moab looking for the light. It was overcast and did not look good. I decided to turn off at Archs Nat. Park and got lucky. I started seeing light and color by the time I reached the North Window Arch. I looked to the north and south and the sky was grey, I got lucky this was the only area where light and color broke through the grey.
