Nubble Nights

Nubble Nights

From an early morning shoot yesterday with Andrew Houser . Super challenging shot to process. There is still some funky color banding in the sky due to the red flare being thrown off by the lighthouse. I'm going to have to figure that stuff out as my next lighthouse night shot will most likely be from Bass Harbor which has an almost always on red light.

I had to combine two shots here as again the red light from the lighthouse was dominating the entire scene. I made a second exposure for the foreground and used my patented super complicated technique of covering the lens with my gloved hands every time the red light flashed for a 5 minute exposure to get a more subtly exposed foreground. Houser saw the shot on the back of my phone and said you could see the milky way going through. I told him they were clouds but it seems he was right. The subtle tail end but I'll have to keep an eye on the positioning and see what this shot would like in the summer. Man do I need to get out shooting more often!

Oh, and I suppose for those that don't know, this is Nubble Lighthouse in Cape Neddick, Maine. Still making my way through local lights trying to get some star shots. Seems to be one of the only ways to get unique shots of these iconic lights.

Red Rocks, Centennial Park

Red Rocks, Centennial Park

From a trip out West to Boulder Colorado this past summer. I don't remember the name of this park. If anybody can name it I would love the input (got it, Centennial Park I think) . I got caught up in a great movie on Netflix and was essentially trolling my archives looking for an image to process in black and white. I was in Boulder to visit some family so didn't really get out shooting for real. Glad I was able to at least bring a workable image or two back.

The clouds were interesting this day as the lower level clouds were moving perpendicular to the ones at higher elevation creating the criss cross effect in the sky here.

Old Orchard. Again...

Old Orchard. Again...

Still one of my favorite places to shoot. Bit of a fizzle of a sunset after a promising start.

And as for the Nikon D800E announced today? It's about time and yes please! I'll take one thanks...

PHL Nights

PHL Nights

I was planning on Aurora hunting the other night but came across some open gates at the Portland Head Light so a change of plans was in place. I think one of the greater frustrations of local photographers is the inability to get into the PHL at any time of day so I definitely couldn't pass it up. Heavy cloud cover thwarted my star trail plans but aided in getting some ambient light on the subject.

Click here if you want to see it biggest.

I thought I was done with Antelope Canyon pics but found this one loitering on my hard drive. I like this version much better than a more zoomed in version I had posted previously. I like the lines and light in the bottom half of the frame.
