Someone asked in a previous post how I lit this series - here was my answer:

I never want to destroy the illusion created by a shot, but if you were to have seen the behind the scenes, you would probably be appalled at how ghetto this lighting set up really was.

I had picked up a couple of old 1k stage spot lights at a pawn shop awhile back that I think were used at the Luxor hotel. From the moment I bought them I knew I wanted to do a color theme.

However, these lamps are beat up, are huge in size, don't have stands, weigh a ton and get super hot. I have a nice collection of gels, but I wanted a broader color pallet with added texture... so I went to the 99 cent store and bought a bag of random translucent colored items in the pink, purple and blue range - found some colored acrylic clip boards and fruit bowls and other random crap I could randomly pile in front of the lights to create "slivers" of textured color.

So basically I had 2 giant hot lamps propped up on piles of junk and chairs and stabilized with books and other random objects - then I would randomly pile the 99 cent store junk in front of the lights after each set up - which would melt from the heat and start to smoke up the room.

So yeah - 2 broken Vegas stage lamps sitting on piles of junk - causing piles of colored junk to heat up, melt and smoke... what can I say - I love going ghetto if it'll give me something unique... and the expressions from models concerned about lights that might spontaneously ignite in flames is just an added bonus;-)
