Brands 2

Brands 2 by mleak.
Lately I’ve been a bit obsessed with the idea of corporate branding. One idea that interested me was the fact that branding implies ownership. That, of course, brought me to the literal idea of branding and branding irons, which here signifies corporate ownership and also points to the branded as cattle. The thing I find most amusing is that I could actually see this as a fad. I’ve seen people with coroporate tattoos, and guys with logos in their buzzcuts. This probably wouldn’t even be much of a stretch.

What a brilliant idea. Your thinking on the subject, that is, not the prospect of human branding. But I think you're right that there are people who would do it.

The Enron logo looked like a branding iron, the Lazy E or would it be Crooked E?

just find some self hating emo kid and they'll unhappily (they are never happy) stick a heated piece of iron into their flesh. I've seen them cutting designs into themselves, but this is far more advanced design than crooked pentagrams

Wow, you're fun. I really love your works. I was attracted over here thanks to lingering evolutionary bits of animalistic tendencies when I saw your bra in the MAKE pool (and I try so very hard to be upright and civil). Then upon finding out what it was, I was impressed. I love projects involving branding, or the removing thereof. I recall a photographer who removed all text from every item in photos from around a city, and the unbelievable peace the imagery brought me. I wondered what else you did. "Awesome," I thought. She's also responsible for those wonderful branding irons (which I'd never use :)

Then I saw you repelled out your 7th story window. I still don't know why, but I say excellent. Shortly after that I noticed you're also responsible for the crocheted grocery bag sandals. I don't remember how often I've re-looked them up to make a point, or just to show someone I thought would love to see them. I've even just looked them up again a few times out of faded-memory recuriosity.

And THEN I noticed the hair portraits. I saw those way back when, long before the sandals, and in fact remembered them again yesterday, when I noticed one of my own hairs, which have grown out considerably, clinging to the shower wall. Thanks for all the good times!

gfixler — wow, thanks for that, I've been grinning for the last twenty minutes!

You know, funny thing about the first part — you're certainly not the only one. I'm always amazed that even though that picture is by no means flattering, it still gets twice as many hits as the other two. Hee, the heck with civility and uprightness! And see, if you hadn't given in, you'd have missed out. Right?

Anyway, thanks bunches for the comment :) I'm glad you enjoyed everything. Do you remember who that photographer was, by any chance? I would love to see those photos.

Hmm, you have quite an interesting set of projects, or rather: a set of interesting projects. I wound up at your shower hair set through Boing Boing after Googling for hairs shower when I was designing some postery thingie. I looked at all of your pictures. Seems to me that you can go places, if you want to. Very creative!

Anyway, I remember the textless photographs, too. It's called "The "Untitled Project". I'm working on Something Similar myself, now, that's why. ("That's why what, Jan?" -"Erm, Idunno.")

First there was tattoos, then came underskin implants. Could this be the next big thing in decorating your skin?? And could you be sponsored to do it??

I love your way of thinking.
