Black Dice

    Newer Older

Strobist Info: Snooted SB-26 @1/64 power from the top, slightly behind the dice. Vignetting emphasized in LR, but was already there because of the snoot.

ps. I forgot to mention that I used another SB-26 @1/64 power from the camera left to light the face from the dice from the left.

I love the lighting! The streaks of light along the edges really defines the dice very well. If I'm being super picky, I think the die on the far right should be a 4 or a three. The six adds a little more visual weight (not to mention you've got another six right next to it) so it makes the image feel a little off balance.

I also really like the subtle texture in the table/floor. My only question: did you convert this to B&W or is this actually the color version??

      Thank you guys.

Stephen, I think that showing the same number twice gives it more of a random feeling than totally distinct numbers, which would look more arranged to me.
The dice are actually red and I changed red to black in the b/w conversion. Here is a shot straight from camera:
      Red Dice

      And here an amber version:
      Amber Dice

      ;-)

What I am not to happy about is the reflections on the front side of the upper dice.

Kerstin, I actually won them from the devil or that's his story of the events. I just had to leave my soul with him.

Jens, true, that would have been an option. And btw. your comment made me realize that I forgot to mention in the strobist info that I used two strobes.
One reason I did it the way I did was to give it more dimension, but the major reason was that I liked it good enough to not fetch a third strobe. Or to make a long story short: I am a lazy as.

      Hallo Bibo, hi Mariano.

      Bo
