I *heart* FSM.
well, not really, but I find it mindbogglingly funny.
Because while I, you, my neighbor, the people down the street, etc all may have different beliefs- we're certainly entitled to keep them, as protected by our constitution. Likewise, I feel that our school system should be an environment of scientific learning and fact, and not a pulpit to enforce one particular set of religious beliefs on anyone.
It's difficult, because while you think that people in general might be able to use common sense and keep this kind of power-grabbing nonsense to a minimum, that's certainly not the case.
FSM is a great tongue-in-cheek response to the "intelligent design" push, as it happily fulfills all the ID requirements just as easily as Christian theology.
My favorite by far is the supposition that global warming is directly due to the decrease in Pirates on the high seas :)
