Every year, there's a Great Blue Heron who hangs out at my pond. Every year, I try to get a good photo of it. Every year, it plays games with me. I can almost hear it "Never Lady... you'll never get a good photo of me. bwahahahahaha... NevAh!"

Beautiful capture. I have such a tough time with birds. I believe when I was blogging I use to visit your site all the time. Glad to have found you.

I think you did really well, Mist. This is very nice and you have him all in the frame. Maybe one day I will share with you some of my elusive Heron shots where I missed his head or extended legs as he was flying from me. lol Last week I chased two Green Huron for over two hours and never got a shot that amounted to anything.
Hope you have been well. Dont be a stranger. Take care. :)

Herons are so "flighty" aren't they? There are a couple that I've been trying to photograph too, but they see me coming a mile away and take off every time. I've come to the conclusion that there are places where wildlife is more wild and places where they aren't bothered by humans. I've found deer to be the same way. Here on the Canadian prairies, the birds and deer are elusive, but in the rockies you can get right up close and in the eastern states, the herons and egrets stay put! You did a really good job getting this close and clear if you ask me...maybe one day he'll be used to you and your camera.
