Quilty things I'm working on_02
This is a sort of proof of concept for a version of the cathedral windows quilt pattern. I was playing around with two things. Firstly, I wondered if there was a way you could use precuts without doing a lot of trimming. The answer is sort of yes and no. Basically, yes, except where the yellow is, you would need to cut into charm squares in such a way that there'd be a lot of waste which is a drag. But, this particular version would allow you to use layer cakes for the background, charms for the diagonal ovals and then, I don't know, you'd have to probably use fat quarters for the diamonds and cut them just to size.
The other thing I did was to sandwich some batting in between the background and the diagonal oval pieces. Doing so means that you basically quilt as you go which is pretty nice. All you'd have to do after assembly is bind the piece.
I still need to work on my top stitching but I like the idea a lot. It has the look of cathedral windows but there's basically no hand sewing (unless you want to do hand sewing, in which case, have at it!)
